Cheon Lab

My summer research project at the Centre for Evolutionary Nanoparticles was focused on the synthesis and analysis of 2-dimentional nanoparticles. We synthesised and analysed a range of TiS2 samples, in order to find a relationship between the reaction conditions and the lateral size of the nanodiscs we produced. Such research has potential applications in the design of Lithium ion batteries and solar cells, which can prove to be vital in combatting our dependence on fossil fuels. I found the experience very valuable, as it has allowed me to master new equipment and software, as well as familiarising myself with the cutting edge developments of nanotechnology research. 

I would like to thank Professor Cheon’s group, all of whom have been incredibly welcoming and helpful to us. It has been a pleasure working here, and I would recommend it to anyone that wants an insight into the workings of a research laboratory, as well as a profound experience of modern-day Korean culture.
